Kashmiri Copperware

Long before copper became cookware, it was canvas. In the karkhanas of Srinagar, master karigars practice Kandkaari — a centuries-old hand-engraving technique where chisel and hammer turn raw copper into Chinar leaves, paisleys, and floral motifs that have adorned Kashmiri homes for generations.

Every samovar, thal, and handi here is hand-beaten and hand-engraved — no two pieces are identical, each carrying the visible mark of the karigar who made it. Tableware pieces are tin-lined for everyday use; display pieces are left in raw copper, built to deepen into a richer patina with age.

This is the copperware Kashmiri households have brought out for weddings and winter gatherings for generations — made, now, to travel beyond Kashmir.
